The Skirmish

"it's nae a real battle"

(Please note: as of Jan 2015 The Skirmish. as such  is not available for performances.  I am leaving this page up as a tribute to the great work and great times we had together;.

Going forward,The Lobster Buoys--Bill, Russ Levia, and Victor Maltby -- are providing similarly upbeat Celtic/Folk Music in a business environment that has more opportunities for smaller combos than full bands. We are all still friends--see the Links page for what the other original Skirmish members are up to.  )

There's a mob of Celtic rabble-rousers coming to your town, but no worries, they’re friendly...meet The Skirmish.

This Lanark County band is dedicated bringing over-the-top rock'n'roll energy to the delivery of Celtic-based material on (mostly) acoustic instruments--in short, we're a pub and party band, perfect for your celebration or community festival.  We play both familiar and unusual choices from Scottish, Irish and Maritime sources, including songs, jigs and reels.  Being good Canadians, we also cover songs by Stan Rogers, Great Big Sea, and more, and play our own compositions, both songs and instrumentals.

Bandleader Bill Cameron, a lifelong Ontario musician, started the group in early 2006. He sings, in a resonant tenor, the songs of his Scottish and Maritime heritage, and provides fiery mandolin and guitar-picking, while revealing a softer side with a melodious pennywhistle and bass.  Linda Grenier delivers ballads in her powerful, velvet-smooth vocal style, with a strong rhythm guitar style and occasional percussion.  Victor Maltby plays fine fiddle and adds sublime vocal harmonies. Gary Glover provides bodhran, vocals, bass and guitar and some of his own songs.

Since their stage debut on St Patrick’s Day 2006, The Skirmish has been in high demand in Lanark County, Ottawa and beyond.  The combination of energy and tradition embodied in their music appeals to all ages.  The Skirmish is the ideal live music choice for your Maritime, Scottish or Irish-themed pub night, festival or special event.  Lively material, superior musicianship, and audience participation make an evening into an event to remember. For a good time, and a long time, call The Skirmish!
